Community interest Company (CIC), Universal Truth, has an exciting opportunity for an influential and collaborative individual to join us as a Board Member.
About us
We are Universal Truth. Our focus is to help young girls and women rebuild their lives after living through forced marriage and honour-based violence. Our goal is to eradicate these violations of human rights.
Everything we do is informed and shaped by our founder, Nyla Khan, who has first-hand experience of forced marriage. Our support services are delivered through one-to-one programmes, group workshops, and speaking events.
We work with individuals to re-discover and re-build their personal power, and we influence and support companies and the public sector to respect and value individual’s uniqueness while safeguarding victims.
About the role
Our Board is comprised of senior executives from leading organisations who are passionate about Universal Truth’s mission.
Our Board Members play a pivotal role in identifying opportunities, building transformational partnerships, prompting cultural change, and collectively advocating for our mission to support those affected by forced and abusive marriages. See more about our current Board Members.
As a Board Member of Universal Truth, you will:
Work with our founder Nyla and the Board to deepen relations with existing partners and identify and forge new relationships.
Identify resources and funding to improve Universal Truth’s impact.
In particular, you will:
Be an ardent advocate for Universal Truth in public dialogue.
Engage relevant leaders and influencers and champion Universal Truth to your contacts and networks.
Contribute to the strategic direction of Universal Truth and the development of services, support, and transformational partnerships.
Advise on the legal governance of Universal Truth as a CIC with in-depth understanding of corporate governance issues.
About you
You'll bring life experience, a unique worldview, and extensive networks to help solve the strategic challenges Universal Truth faces and expand its impact.
You will:
Be engaged with, and excited by, Universal Truth’s vision, mission, and values.
Be deeply dedicated to eradicating forced marriage and honour-based violence, and have a strong interest in human rights, social justice, anti-racism, and gender equality.
Have high integrity with strong emotional intelligence. In particular, you will have a progressive mindset with an understanding of your own blind spots and enjoy continually learning.
Be willing to build and use networks to make introductions for Universal Truth.
Commit the time required for this role, circa four hours per month plus one hour for meetings.
Terms of Appointment
This role is unremunerated (pro bono).
There are four board meetings per year which are held virtually.
