Universal Truth - Our Story

About Us

Nyla Khan

Nyla Khan - the founder of Universal Truth - understands forced marriage in the only way it truly can be understood: by someone who experienced it and experienced it at the tender age of 19.

Her healing – a process that has taken over 15 years to process – is ongoing.

Her story is so much more than the cliched narrative of a young woman being taken to Pakistan and forced into a marriage shorn of any emotional, spiritual or physical connection.

Her journey continues to fuel a desire for change, for uprooting practices and traditions that should have no place in the 21st century.

The personal cost has been significant: disowned by her family, she has had to cope with ongoing abuse, brutal silencing as well as community coercion and even online intimidation. None of this has impacted her commitment to delivering a societal reset around forced marriage in defiance of archaic cultural traditions.

And that is why she was inspired to set up Universal Truth. As a lived experience leader she draws on her own personal spiritual awakening to share her story and to be an inspiring role model.

Nyla describes how she went from once feeling like a failed unworthy daughter to the knowledge that she is just a soul who was made in the light of God.

Through Universal Truth, Nyla seeks to break a cycle that has led so many women into lives not of their own choosing. She leads, teaches and supports others drawing on her own hard-fought wisdom and personal traumas.

“We understand that society’s structures and systems must embrace change in order for change to be effective and sustainable. That is why Universal Truth's focus is strongly dedicated to leading policy changes so that ethnic minorities are systemically supported and protected.”
